چکیده

This paper discusses the implementation of anIPv6.java.net package allowing distributed applications to benefit from all the new aspects of the IPv6 protocol such as: security, flow control, mobility and multicast. Moreover, we present a full IP Next Generation Compliant JavaTM Virtual Machine, that is a JVM which is able to handle both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols from standard Java APIs and in a fully transparent way for the users/programmers.

How can hardware support Just-In-Time compilation?

Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler is an e cient and preferred style of implementing the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) on resource-rich machines. Using a JIT compiler, the bytecodes are translated to native code at runtime. In this paper, we investigate where the time is spent in such dynamic compilers and how well a smart JIT compiler can do. Next, we propose architectural mechanisms that can be used to...

Statement of Research

History has shown the benefits of high-level languages, language design, and managed language runtimes on how programmers develop complex and sophisticated systems. High-level languages, such as Java and Standard ML, are strongly typed and provide rich abstraction mechanisms, thereby reducing the time and effort to develop software. Language primitives and abstractions provide semantic guarante...

A P2P Approach to ClassLoading in Java

The Classloader has long been one of the key extensibility points of the Java Virtual Machine architecture. It lies at the heart of many of the distributed mechanisms that have made the Java platform so successful. In this paper we give a brief overview of various distributed system technologies and analyze their applicability within a Peer-to-Peer domain. We propose a new architecture for remo...

Implementing functional languages on object-oriented virtual machines

Hosting functional languages in object-oriented environments, such as the Java Virtual Machine and Microsoft’s Common Language Infrastructure, so that they inter-operate well with other languages presents a number of problems. In this paper we introduce Mondrian, a functional language specifically designed for such environments, and describe the decisions and trade-offs in its design.

Runtime Code Generation with JVM and CLR

Modern bytecode execution environments with optimizing just-in-time compilers, such as Sun’s Hotspot Java Virtual Machine, IBM’s Java Virtual Machine, and Microsoft’s Common Language Runtime, provide an infrastructure for generating fast code at runtime. Such runtime code generation can be used for efficient implementation of parametrized algorithms. More generally, with runtime code generation...
